This was a wonderfully successful event held at the Mpekweni Beach Resort on 8 and 9 March 2007. About 180 stakeholders from different sectors of our district attended.  The various stakeholders made their commitments towards the future growth and development of the Amathole District which were collated into an agreement (see attached) that was signed by the various parties.  This was a very fruitful exercise, especially the preparatory workshops held in advance of the Growth & Development Summit and which considered not only the various sectors of our economy such a agriculture, manufacturing and tourism, but also included spatial workshops held along the various development corridors of our district eg the R72 route, the N2 route, the R63 route and the N6 route.  In this way, there was wide public participation towards the vision of our district by 2014.  This was quite a unique concept as far as GDS’s are concerned and members of the provincial government and other district municipalities were so impressed that they propose to use this as a model going forward.  Take a momemt to look at the attached agreement to read some of the commitments made by the public and private sector towards the future growth and development of our district.  This agreement is the yardstick by which we will evaluate and monitor our performance going forward.
