ADM DEBT AS OF 28 FEBRUARY 2022 AT R927 000 000.00

ADM HEADQUARTERS – MONDAY, 14 MARCH 2022

Amathole District Municipality (ADM) continues with its campaign to hold debtors accountable. ADM is now stepping up its effort to bring all owing businesses to book. As a result, the municipality has now issued disconnection notices to ten of the most indebted businesses in each of its six local municipalities

The disconnection notices have bene issued after ADM made numerous appeals to indebted customers to settle their debts or enter into a payment arrangement. However, due to non-responsiveness of the debtors in all of ADM's attempts to reach out,  the institution has had to officially involved its legal team in the matter.

To date, a total of sixty-seven (67) account holders have been handed over to the legal unit and 30 of those have already been served with legal summons.

ADM had previously issued a statement on 24 February 2022 highlighting that the municipality was owed over R 900 million by households, government and businesses. The statement went on to denounce the culture of non-payment and vowed to take a tough stance on all those who default on payments.

The businesses in question add a combined contribution of R18 353 613 to the overall debt owed to ADM.

"The business sector is driven and sustained by profit and therefore it is unfair for businesses to expect ADM to continue providing services at no cost as this seriously puts the district under tremendous pressure in execution of its functions. it is therefore one of the core reasons why ADM has decided to list, by name and by Local Municipality, all of these businesses"- Municipal Manager Dr Thandekile Mnyimba said.

Below is the list of the owing entities per municipality.

ADM GEARS UP FOR NATIONAL WATER WEEK

ADM HEADQUARTERS – SUNDAY, 13 MARCH 2022

The Amathole District Municipality (ADM) Executive Mayor Nceba Ndikinda with Members of the Mayoral Committee will be embarking on a Water Week Awareness and Build-Up Campaign visits between 14 March and 28 March 2022. The visits are part of his first one hundred days since his inauguration into office on 30 November 2021.

This build-up will target several challenges faced by ADM and their negative impact on the district’s ability to execute its mandate. These include but are not limited to, long term drought, illegal water connections as well as municipal infrastructure vandalism.

“This awareness is to educate our communities on water challenges affecting the delivery of this scarce resource such as illegal connections which is rife throughout the district. Above all else, key to visiting our communities is to carry out water education with the objective of achieving shared understanding on water management and expectations from both the municipality and the communities”- said Ndikinda and added that – “ all of us should be uniting against vandalism of municipal water infrastructure whose impact can be dire for areas with basic health services such as clinics and hospitals”.

With community members throughout the district having raised water related issues ahead of the build-up, Ndikinda will ensure that these are also addressed in the spirit of reaching a common ground beneficial to both the district and its citizenry.
