ADM ISSUES BOIL WATER NOTICE FOR  BUTTERWORTH RESIDENTS

ADM HEADQUARTERS: TUESDAY, 01 DECEMBER 2020

After heavy rains throughout the district, the Gcuwa Weir is overflowing. However, the high turbidity (dirt particles in the water) has made it difficult to treat.  As a precautionary measure, ADM advises consumers to boil water before consumption until the water quality has stabilised.

The areas affected include all water customers within the boundaries of Butterworth, Msobomvu, Ibika, as well as the CBD.

A complete list of affected residential subdivisions is shown below:

Extension 24, Zizamele, Ibika Top, Ibika Bottom, Ibika Industrial Informal Settlement, Coloured Area, Reservoir Hill, Siyanda, New Rest, Upper Mchubakazi Rural, Zazulwana, Extension 6 Top, Town and CBD, Hospital, BTC, Mission.

Although Water Treatment at the Butterworth Plant has resumed, it will take some time for water to be restored to all areas. It is further expected that the water quality will ultimately stabilize, where after, it will once again be safe for drinking without first boiling.

While contamination may have occurred and tests are being conducted, communities are requested to please boil their water prior to consumption. This is to ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes which may be present in the water.  Water utilised for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to consumption. The water should be brought to a vigorous boil for at least three [3] minutes.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the district  will duly send an updated notification to all its customers.
