FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ADM APPOINTS ITS FIRST EVER WOMAN CFO

ADM HEADQUARTERS, Wednesday, 1 March 2017.

The Amathole District Municipality Council appointed Ms Nomthandazo Ntshanga as the municipality’s first ever woman Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This historic decision was taken at a Special Council meeting held at Calgary Conference Centre and Museum, in East London this morning.

The position became vacant after the previous CFO Mr. Nkosinathi Soga resigned.

Mrs. Ntshanga holds a B-Tech in Cost & Management Accounting from the University of South Africa, a certificate in GRAP Implementation and another in Municipal Finance Management from the University of Stellenbosch and University of Fort Hare respectively. It is noteworthy to indicate that her experience in local government spans over 14 years, with 10 years as a Chief Financial Officer in various municipalities.

Mrs. Ntshanga is the first woman to ascend to this critical position since the ushering in of the new local government dispensation.

Speaking on behalf of the ADM, the Executive Mayor, Cllr Winnie Nomfusi Nxawe said Ntshanga’s appointment comes at a crucial time when the institution received its 5th unqualified audit opinion.

“As ADM we have made history by obtaining an unqualified audit opinion for the past 5 years. Mrs. Ntshanga’s appointment as CFO, becomes crucial to maintain good financial management for the public purse that the institution is entrusted with.”

“On behalf of the ADM council, I wish the new incumbent well in her position and would like to assure her of our support to ensure she executes her duties with ease” said Nxawe.

According to the Chairperson of the panel Mr. Chris Magwangqana, “the appointment of the new CFO was carried out in full view of the provisions of Municipal Legislative Framework and Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.”

In her previous positions, Mrs. Ntshanga was responsible for the improvement of favourable audit outcomes in Lukhanji, KSD and Mnquma local municipalities respectively.

Issued by the ADM Communications and Customer Care Unit.
