The need for Districts to host District Growth and Development Summits came as a result of a requirement to build on the National Growth and Development Summit held in June 2003. Further more it was an outcome of Provincial Jobs Summit held in March 2006. Both these Summits resolved that each District should convene District Growth and Development.
As part of the process of hosting Growth and Development Summit a District Profile was developed.
The profile provides an overview of the District Socio-Economic Status. Based on the analysis of District's Socio-Economic Landscape, the profile concludes that the elements of an integrated vision for the growth and development of the district are:
- Growth and Divesification of Urban Economy
- Development of Rural Economy and strengthening of linkages between urban and rural economies
- Service delivery
- Building Municipal Capacity cooperation
