LED can play a distinct role in broadening the economic and socialoptions of rural and urban people and consequently improve the quality of theirlife. The major challenge facing Local Economic Development (LED) is that thereare a number of different institutions and agencies that are involved in LED.
PRINCIPLES AND AIMS
The Amatole District Municipality (ADM) has in its IntegratedDevelopment Plan (IDP) identified a need to establish a District EconomicDevelopment Forum, which will be an overall coordinating structure forinstitutions that are involved in LED within ADM area of jurisdiction.
Withinthe context of DED forum, sectorcoordinating sub committees, which will feed into the forum have beenidentified and will be established. Furthermore the national draft Local Economic Development Policy Paperrecommends the establishment of LED forums that should meet at least twice ayear ‘to report progress and enable proper and appropriate feed back’.
